Kids Today and the Holocaust


Today kids are barely learning about the holocaust.  The teaching level today about the Holocaust is horrible.  Lot's of kids today do not even know what the Holocaust is.  They are completely oblivious to the terrible thing that happened to millions of people.  Because they don't know that it happened they might let it happen again.  My point is they need to learn to understand.  Unfortunately, no one will ever understand their pain.  Or what happened in the camps to the people that did not survive.

Education

Kids are being taught very little these years about the Holocaust with special exceptions.  They will not know anything in the years to come and then it will happen again.  It the Holocaust is slipping away  from our youth.  As the ones that survived the Holocaust pass away we have no recounts of the   the Holocaust.  That means that we have to inform our own children about things that we did not live through and because the education is not as good as it could be the next generations will not know what happened.  Therefore, the knowledge will be lost just as i had recently stated.

Anne Frank


Anne Frank was one of over six million Jewish people who died in the holocaust. She was born Annelies Marie Frank June 12, 1929, in Frankfurt, Germany, to Otto and Edith Frank.  She is probably the most famous child ever for the holocaust.  The reason is that once the holocaust was over her father published her diary.  This diary told the people who were not in concentration camps what it was like for a child to go through all that pain.  Anne did not survive to see the day her diary be published.  She did not not know who is or was reading her diary.  But we all know her. 


Children


Children were not treated better just because they are children they were still treated horrible.  Nothing was fair back then.  The expression life isn't fair is very true.  But this is beyond that line it crossed that line when Hitler started.  What happened then was over the limit.  Unfortunately, Hitler believed what he was correct.  It did not matter if they were children or grownups.  No matter how old they were.  Children of various ages were being put to labor by force.  They had no choice they had to take a brake or have a snack they were tortured.

Who was in the Holocaust


Many people were in the Holocaust.  According to Library.thinkquest.org eleven million people were killed.  Six million were Jewish people.  The Nazis didn't just take Jews.  They took all people that didn't have blond hair and blue eyes.  Hitler was so sure that the Germans would win World War 1that when they lost he was defeated.  He thought the Germans were a perfect people.  He couldn't stand that they lost.

Reactions


Lots of people gave up hope after a while.  They lost faith in their god(s).  Others tried to be strong and not lose hope that they would be rescued.  All of these are reactions that happened during the Holocaust.  Some survivors that I have met or read about say that they did believe in god and now that they are not in the Holocaust  they don't believe in god.  Others have the exact opposite reaction and believe even more.  So, as you can see different people have different reactions.

The Yellow Star

Jude

The word "Jude" is the German word for a Jewish person.  When Poland was defeated the Nazis made a law of publicly identifying the Jewish people.  That meant that every Jew had to have a Jewish star with the word Jude in the middle.  This star must be visible at all times worn on the persons shirt.  The star was a sign that the person wearing  it was a Jew.  In those times when you were wearing that badge you would be avoided by all people.

Humiliation 

  Making the Jews wear the Jewish star quickly changed the sign of Judaism into a patch of humiliation.  Not only were they humiliated but it became like torture to the jewish people.  When they went into the street it was even torture.  When they went into the street they were emediatly recognized, monetered, shunned, abused, and mostly marked for death.  This  made them easy prey for people to make fun of them and phisicaly hurt them to.

The Book

The book MAUS is a very serious book.  Despite the look of the cover this book can be very frightening to some people.  This books is more of a comic than  book.  Not the funny kind.  The book has very intense graphics that have made people throw up.  I would not recommend it for young children.  Although it can be very gruesome at times.  The book can be very informative.  There are times when I read them and I am surprised at what things they did.  I learned a lot about the Holocaust from those books.

About The Book

In this book Jews are portrayed as mice and Germans Are cats etc.  This book is a true story.  In the book he not only tells his fathers story he also tells what happens to himself.  I believe it is also informative on what it was like for the holocaust survivors after the Holocaust.  How hard it was for them to fit in and adjust to the environment.  The Holocaust also left some of the Holocaust  with Little quirks. For example some Holocaust survivors save everything. It explains about that to. This book gives so much information that I would recommend it to almost anyone.

The SS

Heinrich Himmler

Heinrich Himmler was the leader of the SS. The SS was a squad of Nazi solders whose jobs were exterminating Jewish people. The SS was an important part of Hitler's plan. Himmler developed his group of SS men and turned it into an elite brotherhood. Cult-like rituals and Teutonic symbols that made it almost like a religion. Himmler believed himself a reincarnation from a great German king who had concerned eastern territories.

The SS was officially known as the schutzstaffel (Protection Squad) this organization was put together in 1925 as Hitler's personal body guard. When Hitler appointed Himmler as the head of the SS things changed. The SS was not just Hitler's body guards anymore it was more of a police. The SS expanded dramatically over the years from 1929 to 1939 from a few hundred to a quarter of a million.  This was a very good thing for Hiler unfortunately not good for Jews and other races. The SS was a very smart organization run by a smart man. That was unfortunate.

The burning of books

In the night of May 10, 1933, a horrible thing happened. Exactly 100 days after Hitler legally became the Chancellor of Germany he burned 20,000 books across the street from Humboldt University in Berlin. The incident that occurred was anything but an innocent mistake that lit the books on fire. No, that is not what happened at all. That night Hitler and his army collected 20,000 Jewish bibles and burned them. Burned them with no mercy and no doubt in his mind that he was doing the right thing.

How Hitler Came to Power

Hitler had a way of speaking that made the people of Germany want to follow his path and follow his every command. He was a motivational speaker. Unfortunately, not in the good way most motivational speakers are. He was brilliant in that way. The way that he made people wanted to follow him. How do you feel about that? I do not know how he did it; make almost the whole country follow him. To me it seems impossible, but clearly, he did it. 

Bravery

Brave People in the Holocaust


Bravery, some thing not all of us have.  Some people have but not as much as others.  Just think of the people in the holocaust just had to face the fact.  They are not getting saved soon.  They had no choice but to be brave about what was happening and to them. What Adolf Hitler was doing to those innocent people. He was brilliantly horrible man. To think of what else he was planning to do if Those people were not saved.

What they did

The people in the holocaust had many Brave acts such as trying to escape when they knew their chances were one in one hundred. Standing up for people who couldn't stand up for themselves is one I think is very brave indeed. They must have been beaten or shot or gased, But the people who got help must have been very grateful and then would try to help others that is how people survived. Inspired by others to do the right thing  is exactly how they survived though out the years. That's why they survived.

This quote really jumped out at me today in class.  This quote made me think of the Holocaust and the families in it.  How they tried to be brave and do what they thought was right, and they were right.  I hate to say it but Hitler  was the same. He certainly did change the world.  He did the change he wanted to see in the world and people followed it.

The people in the holocaust did the same they were very brave and courageous.  They stood up for what they believed  in. I think that they should all be given a medal and be awarded for even just being in a concentration camp.  That I admire in every man,woman, and child who did or did not survive.

When I read the book

When I first read Number the Stars By Lois Lowry I was in 5th grade. I was still very into the holocaust.  so when I heard that we were going to be reading a book about the holocaust i got very excited.  unfortunately the book was a disappointment to me. although the book was very informative for a few people in my class it was not the level i think should have gotten an award.  Don't get me wrong it is a very good book but I would recommend it for younger audiences.

About the Book

The book is about a girl, her parents, sister, and best friend while they are stuck in the Holocaust.  The girls friend is Jewish, and they have to pretend that they are sisters  so they can stay alive. As soon as they can they escape to their the mothers brothers house and well I'm not going to give it away you will have to read it and if you do please tell me what you thought of the book.

Life is Beautiful


A great movie about the holocaust is Life is Beautiful. It is about a little boy and his father that end up in a concentration camp on the little boys birthday. The father pretends like the whole thing is a game, and they get points for little things. The little boy believes his father the entire time. I wont spoil the end but you must know this is not a movie for kids.

The Movie


Although the movie is in Italian there are captions at the bottom. I have to say Life is Beautiful is truly a great movie. It shows love, Passion, and sincerity. The father in this movie is so Loving for his wife and son. The movie is based on true events that actually happened. Although the movie is not real the idea is. this movie impacts people in a way most people would not think of. I am not the kind of person to cry but this movie even got me crying. That's how powerful the movie really is.

How I Learned...

An event that happened decades ago still has an impact on us today: The holocaust. I started being passionate about the holocaust around age 8. when I first heard about it I was horrified. As I went to school that fall I asked if we were going to learn about the Holocaust. To my surprise, a few kids behind me who were listening asked what the holocaust was.  I didn't think they would not know what the holocaust was.

I tried to explain what it was but I was lost for words. So I did some research and found out a lot of things. In my synagogue there are a couple of holocaust survivers. So I asked to hear there stories. They were horrible, daring, adventures, and more. I'm not related to any holocaust suvivers and luckily all my relitives escaped. Therefore an event that is history is not actually history. It is something that has an impact on the way we think, feel, and act towards eachother every day.
